Record Cam Sites With CaptureGem

The high performance desktop app for cam recording

Overview of the CaptureGem Settings

This guide describes the settings in the current CaptureGem desktop app. Select Save Changes after editing settings. Some recording and auto-record controls require an active premium license.

Basic Settings

Auto Record All Newly Added Models

Automatically records new models when they come online and retries after a disconnect. This premium setting applies to models added after it is enabled.

Enable Chaturbate Custom Headers

Stores a Chaturbate browser request (including your cookies and headers) to make Chaturbate requests look like normal browser traffic. It can resolve many Chaturbate rate-limit and JSON errors. When enabled, use Edit Request to replace the saved request. Do not share the copied request because it can contain session cookies.

Enable Anonymous Error Reporting

Sends anonymous severe-error reports to help improve CaptureGem. It also enables a lock-contention watchdog that can detect a stuck recorder daemon, with a small CPU cost.

Cap Video Segments at Duration (Minutes)

Sets the maximum length of each saved video segment. The exact segment length can vary when Video Length Variability is enabled. Changes affect future segments, not a segment already recording.

Minimum Free Disk Space for Recording (%)

Stops recordings when the free space on the output drive falls below this percentage. Set it to -1 to turn off the check. Choose a value below 100; CaptureGem validates values from -1 through 99.

After Auto Record/Monitor Expiry

Controls what happens when a temporary auto-record or auto-monitor period ends:

  • Switch to Consecutive Recording continues through the recording group sequence.
  • Switch to Single Recording returns the model to one-time recording behavior.
  • End Recording Immediately stops it when the expiry is reached.

Advanced Settings

Review and Monitor Features

Enable Review Feature keeps the Review tab available for browsing and working with completed recordings. Enable Monitor Feature keeps the Monitor tab available for live previews. Disabling either can improve recording performance; disabled tabs can also be hidden with the UI setting below.

Enable Startup Metadata Validation

Checks the video library during startup. Keep it enabled for normal use. Disable it only if a very large library makes startup unacceptably slow.

Nest Videos by Model in Output Folder

Saves each model's videos in that model's subfolder instead of placing all recordings directly in the output folder. Changing this setting automatically migrates existing videos.

Filename Format

Chooses the order of site, model name, and date in saved video names. The available formats are Site-Model-Date, Model-Site-Date, Site-Date-Model, Model-Date-Site, Date-Model-Site, and Date-Site-Model.

Stripchat API Domain and Request Method

Use Stripchat API Domain to choose strip.chat or stripchat.com; strip.chat can help where the .com domain is blocked. Use cURL for Stripchat Requests uses cURL instead of Chromium for Stripchat API calls. It can help with certain network restrictions or performance issues, though Chromium can be more reliable in some regions.

Segment Download and Processing

  • Enable TLS for HLS Segments uses HTTPS for video-segment downloads. Leave it enabled unless a site has connection problems.
  • End Recording for Segment 404 Errors ends the recording when a video segment is missing. Turn it off only if you prefer a recording to continue despite missing segments.
  • Concurrent Requests is the global maximum for simultaneous video-segment and API requests. Higher values can improve throughput but use more network and CPU.
  • Max API Queue Size limits requests waiting to be processed. It must be greater than Concurrent Requests; larger values absorb bursts but use more memory.
  • Segment Inspection Parallelism controls the number of parallel segment-inspection workers. More workers can be faster but use more CPU and memory.
  • Concurrent Transcoders limits simultaneous transcoder processes. Increase it only when the machine has enough CPU, disk, and ffmpeg capacity.

Per-site Recording Options

Max Resolution Per Site lets you cap the recording resolution separately for each supported site to save bandwidth and storage. Segment Verification Per Site selects how thoroughly each site's segments are verified: Basic skips deep decoding for faster processing, while Full performs all checks and can substantially increase processing time.

Recording Cleanup and Timing

  • Auto Delete Recordings Below Duration (Seconds) deletes completed recordings shorter than the chosen length. Set -1 to disable it.
  • Snooze Recording Duration (Minutes) sets how long a manually snoozed model stays paused. If auto-record is enabled, CaptureGem resumes it when the snooze ends.
  • Temporary Auto Record Expiration (Minutes) sets the duration used by temporary auto-record and auto-monitor actions.
  • Live Monitor Refresh Delay (Seconds) sets the interval for new Monitor previews. Preview processing adds CPU use only while the Monitor tab is open.
  • Network Timeout (Seconds) ends a recording when no network data arrives within the configured time.
  • Wait Time Variability (%) adds random delay before a new recording attempt, which can reduce upstream rate limiting.
  • Video Length Variability (%) randomizes the segment cap by the configured percentage.
  • Offline Retry Wait Time and Error Retry Wait Time set the retry delay after an offline/private status or an error. Very short delays can cause rate limiting.
  • Max Concurrent Auto Recordings caps simultaneous auto-record and auto-monitor sessions. User-started sessions still count toward the limit but are not blocked by it. Set -1 for no cap.

Folder Settings

Video Save Location

The final destination for processed recordings. The disk-space limit is evaluated on this drive.

Temporary Files Location

Stores in-progress recordings and HLS temporary data before processing. Changing it stops every active recording and monitor session, so change it only when no recordings are active and the destination folder is empty.

Metadata Files Location

Stores recording metadata, thumbnails, and audit information. Changing it copies metadata to the new location; make sure the destination folder is empty first.

Proxy Files Location

Stores downloads captured by the proxy feature.

Open Settings Folder

Opens the folder that contains CaptureGem's configuration and data files.

Display Settings

Language Selection

Changes the application language. CaptureGem provides the languages available in its language selector.

Enable Dark Mode

Switches the interface between light and dark themes.

Show Record Icon

Shows or hides the recording icon in the interface.

Show Updates When Available

Shows a notification when a newer CaptureGem release is available.

Hide Disabled Tabs

Hides tabs for features that have been disabled, such as Review or Monitor.

Show All Tips

Shows or hides the app's tips and hints.

Settings Actions

The Settings page also provides buttons to restart recorderd, view system-monitor information, import or export models as CSV, reset stored data, and exit the app. Resetting data is irreversible, so review the listed folders in the confirmation dialog first.
