CaptureGem 2.14.13: conversion progress, faster conversions, safer temp files, and recording fixes

October 7, 2026 by Admin

CaptureGem 2.14.13 adds conversion progress, faster conversions when quality changes, safer handling of unfinished recordings, and fixes for MyFreeCams timing, Stripchat quality, Chaturbate audio sync, VR recovery and Combine Videos.

See what a conversion is doing, and send its logs to support

Queue Status now shows each conversion's run time and current step: checking parts, repairing video, re-encoding, writing the video, adding audio or removing temp files. Re-encoding shows the amount processed and a percentage, so long conversions no longer look idle.

Premium users can use Send logs to support while a recording is queued or converting, including busy items in Unfinished recordings. Support receives logs, the conversion's step and output, its place in the queue, and a file list. No video is sent while the recording is being processed, and the upload lets it keep recording or converting.

Failed recordings: 0 now deletes files after retries stop

Untranscoded Temp File Retention (Days) still defaults to 3 days after the last failed attempt, once automatic retries stop. In 2.14.12, 0 kept failed recordings indefinitely. In 2.14.13, 0 deletes their files at the next cleanup after automatic retries stop, with no extra retention period. This also applies if you saved 0 before updating. Choose 1 to 365 days to leave time for manual retry or support. Recordings still recording, converting or being sent to support are skipped. The setting's tooltip and Unfinished recordings explain the new behavior.

What's New

  • MyFreeCams recordings keep their original timing. Joining some MyFreeCams recordings added a small gap at every part boundary, making videos stutter or run longer than the captured show. CaptureGem now preserves the original video and audio timing when the stream is continuous, including small timing jumps from the encoder. It also avoids making an extra full-size temporary copy of these recordings during conversion.
  • Silent embedded recording players. XCams and Superlive's built-in recording players could play sound through your speakers while recording. They are now muted for speaker output, while audio is still captured in the recording.
  • Settings folder controls stay aligned. Folder buttons could appear beside the wrong paths after the temporary-folder move status was added. Each button now stays with its matching path, long labels wrap, and narrow windows stack the button above the path.
  • Less work when a recording changes resolution. Cam4 can start at low resolution, and Stripchat can switch quality mid-recording. Previously, one different-sized stretch could make CaptureGem re-encode the whole recording. For compatible H.264 recordings saved as MP4, it now re-encodes only the stretches that need changing, with a full re-encode as fallback if they can't join safely. Re-encoding uses fewer CPU threads too.
  • Better Stripchat quality selection. Some 2D Stripchat recordings used a lower-bitrate version than the one available in a browser, and No max could miss the broadcaster's original stream, especially for portrait shows. CaptureGem now requests H.264 for 2D recordings and looks for the original stream when it is missing from the usual quality list. Within your resolution limit, matching heights prefer the original stream, then the higher bitrate. Stripchat VR's codec selection is unchanged.
  • Stripchat regional links work. Links from stripchat.global, stripchat.ooo, stripchat.cam and stripchat.org, including language subdomains such as de.stripchat.global, are now recognized as Stripchat when you add a model. Previously, they could be added as Other Site and stay Offline. If you already added one that way, re-add it with Stripchat selected.
  • Stripchat keeps up after a stream restart. After a broadcaster restarted their stream, CaptureGem could spend 30 seconds retrying each old part that would never arrive, while new parts piled up and were lost. It now stops retrying a missing part once the current playlist no longer lists it, so downloading can move on to the new stream. Parts still listed keep their normal retry window.
  • More short or damaged Stripchat recordings convert. A part cut off during a download can still contain playable video. CaptureGem now keeps its complete fragments instead of dropping the whole part, and handles a trailing part whose unwritten bytes are all zeros. With Basic or Full verification, an isolated damaged part can also be skipped when later video doesn't depend on it and the remaining recording passes its checks. When damage can't be safely isolated, conversion stops with the source files kept for retry or support.
  • Stripchat recordings that gain audio partway through. A recording could fail with "audio track count changed" if its first stretch had video only and a later stretch had sound. For supported AAC recordings, CaptureGem now adds silence to the video-only stretch, joins it to the rest, and keeps the later audio in sync.
  • Chaturbate audio stays in sync after lost segments. In recordings with separate video and audio, a download gap longer than 10 seconds could make the audio play early for the rest of the video. CaptureGem now uses its saved download history to keep those gaps aligned, including across quality changes. It also fixes audio timing when damaged video at the beginning has to be skipped. If you still have an older video's retained temp files and recording metadata, re-transcoding it can apply the fix.
  • More dependable proxy imports. Stripchat parts that finish downloading out of order are now assembled in their original stream order, avoiding missing frames and compressed timing. Retrying a Chaturbate proxy import also keeps parts already combined by the previous attempt. If different qualities, broadcast sessions or replacement headers can't be matched safely, the import stops with the original files kept rather than mixing them into one video.
  • More Dreamcam and SexLikeReal VR recordings convert. These sites sometimes write empty placeholder frames when a broadcast stalls, or leave a short tail that can't be decoded after a frame is lost. Those recordings could fail with exit 6 on every retry. CaptureGem now repairs the placeholders and can trim an undecodable tail while keeping the playable video. Parts containing no video are left out when the remaining recording can be recovered safely.
  • Combine Videos accepts more recordings. Recordings of the same model could be refused just because the broadcaster's H.264 encoder settings changed between shows. Compatible recordings now join without re-encoding. When differences in resolution, codec or audio really require conversion, the dialog lists them and offers Combine by re-encoding, with progress while it runs. This matches the first video's resolution, takes longer and slightly lowers quality. CaptureGem also checks the combined output before deleting originals, fixing a case where a damaged sample could silently leave later videos out of the result.
  • Changing the temporary folder preserves unfinished recordings. Changing Temporary files directory in Settings now moves queued and failed recordings to the new location in the background instead of deleting the old folder. A recording still in use waits until it can be moved. Settings and Unfinished recordings show the move's progress and any files left behind. Moves between drives check free space and verify the copy before removing the original; if a move can't finish safely, the files stay available in the old folder. Settings also prevents temporary folders from overlapping video, metadata or cleanup folders.
  • Safer saves and cleanup. Cross-drive saves now work for single-part recordings too. Failed cleanup is retried without converting a finished recording again. Renamed or copied unfinished folders can be deleted from the queue without an "invalid recording folder" error. Combine Videos also retries cleanup on Windows when files are still open.
  • Cleaner shutdowns and restarts. Quitting, updating or restarting gives recordings time to finish their current download and save their state. Conversion processes and FFmpeg end with the recorder instead of consuming CPU after a restart. Cleanly stopped conversions don't count as failures and are queued again at the next start. Leftover conversion scratch files are cleaned up too.
  • Clearer explanations for missing or unplayable files. Very short Stripchat or Cam4 recordings with no decodable video now show No playable video in Unfinished recordings, instead of repeatedly failing with exit 3 or 6. They stop retrying automatically, including after an update. Your retention setting above applies; while the files remain, you can retry or delete them manually. Queue Status > History also names recording folders or init files removed outside CaptureGem. If that happens while recording, CaptureGem recreates what it needs and keeps recording; it can't restore video that was already deleted.
  • CameraPrive conversion fix. Some CameraPrive recordings with changing resolution failed with "no probed video resolutions available" at None verification because of the stream's unusual timestamps. CaptureGem now handles those timestamps when choosing the output resolution.
  • Clearer email-code sign-in errors. If an email code can't be sent, CaptureGem now distinguishes an unrecognized account email, an inactive premium subscription, an invalid address, rate limiting and an unreachable server. Messages name CaptureGem or CamTrove as appropriate, so using a different email no longer makes it look as though the wrong subscription has expired.
